Photo-Editing: It's nearly impossible to get a "perfect" photo every time. That's when the work of an experienced photo-retouching artist is crucial. From simply removing blemishes, debris, and stains, to more elaborate compositing work, it can make a difference when promoting the image of your company.

Treebeards Market Square

Because this is Treebeards' "'signature"' location, it was important to get it as "perfect" as possible. To capture an interesting perspective with key elements in the photo, such as the signs under the balcony, the best shooting location was in the middle of the Intersection. Because of this, the photo was taken on a Sunday when the location is closed–and the umbrellas are not open. The angle and position of the sun were good, but the image still needed work. The final image required clipping paths, copying elements to new layers, individual layer adjustment, and some 3D modeling. Records & Information Management Building

Photographing a white building on a sunny day can presents a challenge because of exposure problems. The original image was underexposed, and because of project requirement, shot during winter months while the grass in the foreground was dormant and brown. The final image was adjusted to bring up the impact of the building, and layers were used to clean up the image and colorize the grass. The grass "color" was applied by selecting and filling areas, then "painting" around detail areas. Because it was on its' own layer, the grass color could be adjusted separately.

The Spencer Company Entry:

Because of client-imposed time constraints, this photo had to be shot during winter months on an overcast day. The light and perspective of this image was good, but it needed work to transform it into a "presentation" image. Street sign faces were darkened so as not to detract from the impact of the flower bed, a light pole was removed, the grass in the background was colorized, and "holes" in the flower bed were filled by copying, pasting, and blending flowers from other parts of the bed.

New Furniture Design Services

The original image was photographed in an office using two studio lights with umbrellas. Because the woman was facing a corner, away from the lights, special care was taken to light her face properly. Levels and saturation were first adjusted to bring up the color and impact of the image. The computer screen was shot separately, pasted, and distorted to match the flatscreen's perspective.

The Spencer Company Gazebo Site

This photograph presented some challenges due to its' location in the trees, an overcast day, concrete stains and debris, and some patches of dormant grass. The final image was adjusted and cleaned up to become a "centerpiece" photo used in the company's promotional materials.

Records & Information Management Van

At the time this photo was taken, the main van used by this division didn't have any logo or graphics. The vinyl wrap graphic development for the van had just begun (see Large Format), and final production and application was still weeks away. An image was needed for a brochure that they desperately needed to promote the new division, so the van art was applied using a variety of layering, clipping, and masking techniques to achieve the final image. The resulting image matches perfectly with later photos after the van was "wrapped" with it's new graphics..

Scanner & Printer

Because it's impossible to properly expose both the Pocket PC screen and the devices themselves, the screen was created in an illustration application, converted, and positioned over the screen of the device. Also, because the printer was designed to be worn on a belt, the logo was placed to be "upright" in that position, but upside down if shot in this manner. The logo was shot closer and "straight-on" to use as a resource for re-orienting the logo for the final image.

Barcode Scanner

A re-creation of the Pocket PC's screen was placed over the device's blank screen. The new screen was re-created in an illustration application to ensure the best quality, and when pasted onto it's own layer, allowed separate control of brightness and opacity (to mimic reflections). The laser was also re-created on it's own layer for the same adjustment control.

Mama Assumptions Cajun Grill & Oyster Bar

During early development of the promotional materials for this new restaurant, a photo was needed of the building. In the original photo, part of the door window graphics weren't complete, and there weren't any tables in the front. Using Photoshop, the graphics were completed, and 3D tables were modeled, rendered, and composited into the final image.
